Art Nouveau Mansion

An ambitious project to completely modernise a large mansion built in 1890.
Once completed the 650 square metres grand town house offers 7 bedrooms, including 5 ensuite bathrooms, a guest house, 2 terraces, a landscaped garden, a pool, a lift, a basement with wine cellar and a garage.

The renovation was done to the highest specification, respecting most of the house's original features including decorated ceilings, original hydraulic tiles flooring, and conserving or restoring most of the original wooden carpentry. It took just over two years to complete this project.

After two years of work the back façade has been completely renovated, the roofs changed, and a lot of structural work was needed to strengthen the building and open up the space within.

Front doors - before & after

Like most of the old house' wood carpentry the front doors were made out of a very good quality Northern Pine. They had never been maintained and we were delighted to bring them back to their original beauty.

To match the design and proportions of the doors' wood panelling we commissioned a cabinet maker to fit panels onto the metal structure of the mechanised garage door.
Once stained it feels like an original feature that blends in with the façade.

What was once an old storage building, wash room and chemist' laboratory got turned into an elegant 2 bedrooms guest cottage completed with the main house' machine room and laundry room.

After years of neglect the vast L shaped garden was completely landscaped with the addition of a pool, sun deck and pool shower

A great team of gardeners worked closely with the landscape designer to select the plants and flowers most suited for the Mallorcan' climate. In addition the plumbers installed an automated irrigation system to facilitate the maintenance.

Built in 1890 the house' original decorated ceilings were completely restored, using the by a team of specialists using the colour palette of the Art Nouveau era.

With the room fully renovated the electricians fitted a new glass chandelier

The grand entrance original features were kept and enhanced with brand new floor tiles, restored wall panels, added false ceiling with moldings and new lighting scheme.

Following the client's wish the interior designer sourced this unique sofa as the main feature of the entrance hall.

The kitchen was designed to flow into the ground floor open space with made to measure units in the finest materials.

Occupying half of the first floor, the Master suite was designed as an open plan bedroom/bathroom with a custom-built double vanity dividing the space and his & hers walk-in wardrobes in the ante-chamber used to enter the suite.

In one of the bedrooms a traditional free-standing bathtub was fitted to allow the client to luxuriate in the bath whilst taking in a view of the Tramuntana.

Another suite includes a lounge room opening onto the bedroom and bathroom space with a curved shower cubicle designed by the architect.

The old top floor attic was quite dark and was transformed into a grand lounge and cinema room, completed with oak floors.

The upper salon is the third and largest of the lounge areas of the house and is flooded with natural light.

Where there was once two small narrow windows a grand picture windows was fitted allowing the clients to enjoy the stunning view to the Tramuntana

Some of the original hydraulic tiles were upcycled to create a rug effect and add colour.

No mansion would be complete without its wine cellar. The space used here in the basement was an originally an olive oil storage chamber which was completely renovated.
